Summary:The Phoenix Kids project in association with the Children's Surgical Centre, Phnom Penh will enable reconstructive burns surgery to rebuild the lives of children who have been disabled because of serious burn injuries. The likelihood of these injuries is exacerbated by the traditional Cambodian cooking practices involving the use of open fires and very hot oil or water. The Phoenix Kids project is managed by the Rotary Club of Phnom Penh, Cambodia and supported by the Rotary Club of Bendigo South.
Challenge:To rebuild the lives of children who have been disabled as a result of serious burn injuries.
Solution:With the right treatment from the Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), children's lives can be transformed and their quality of life immeasurably improved.
Long term impact:The international doctors who give their time to help the children at CSC also train local doctors and nurses in the techniques they use thus enabling Cambodian medical staff to continue in this work and to spread the required knowledge throughout the country.
