| Description: | This project supports a group of families caring for children in Kalulushi, Zambia. These children lost both parents and are currently being cared for by extended family members with limited financial means. The aim of the project is to improve the children’s living conditions, access to basic needs, education, and long-term sustainability, while supporting the family unit that cares for them.
Funds raised through this RAWCS project will be used to provide essential infrastructure, housing improvements, education support, and income-generating opportunities for the caregivers, enabling a stable and dignified environment for the children to grow and thrive.
To date, community fundraising in Australia has already enabled the connection of a reliable water supply, construction of a small housing extension, delivery of clothing and essential items, provision of manual and electric sewing machines for caregiver income generation, and the purchase of land to secure a foundation for future development.
Future stages of the project will focus on:
• Construction or improvement of safe, durable housing
• Education support, including school fees, uniforms, and learning materials
• Food security and basic household needs
• Sustainable livelihood initiatives (such as sewing or small enterprise) to reduce long-term reliance on aid
The project is community and family-led, with trusted local oversight in Zambia and clear accountability processes. All funds will be applied directly to humanitarian outcomes that improve the wellbeing, safety, and future prospects of the orphaned children and their caregivers. |
