Summary: | Rotary Australia Repurposing Equipment. To fund freight and costs for containers sent from Western Region, District 9423. |
Challenge: | An efficient and effective program has been established for the distributing of redundant medical equipment to disadvantaged communities in Australia and overseas, under a regulative framework. A significant volume of beds and equipment has been donated from Public and Private Hospitals and additional support to the RARE project is now required to fund worldwide containers. |
Solution: | The RARE Project has this year committed to send two containers for regional hospitals in Cambodia and a second container to "Save the Mother" project at Burnanya Health Centre in Uganda. In addition, requests have been received from Mongolia, Republic of Congo, PNG and Kenya for specific hospital equipment. The challenge is to broaden the funding of the Rare Project, with many more clubs and individuals contributing to cover freight costs, so that equipment can be dispatched. |
Long term impact: | Repurposing equipment achieves sustainability by placing redundant equipment where it is needed, turning landfill into lifesaving aid, dramatically and measurably improving environmental and social outcomes. |
