Summary: | Restart is the name for The Sanata Charitable Trust, which is a registered charity and consists of two Trusts, one based in the United Kingdom, the other in Gilgil, Kenya. The purpose of the UK Trust is to generate funds for the development and ongoing costs of the Restart Children’s Centre that rescues street children. |
Challenge: | Large number of street children who have been orphaned, abandoned, or driven out of their homes. When coming to Restart all of them suffered starvation, physical and/or sexual abuse. Restart receives no grants or funding from the Kenyan government – the Centre is supported purely by donations and sponsorship. |
Solution: | The founder, Mary Coulson, set up premises to house as many children as possible. Over the years the orphanage had to move to a bigger building to allow for more children. Restart now looks after over 100 children, aged from a just few months old into adulthood, providing food, shelter, welfare and education. |
Long term impact: | We believe that all children should be given love and opportunity and they can find exactly that at Restart Africa. Restart Africa does not just improve the lives of local children - the charity gives them a life! A life which most likely would have ended much too early otherwise. In Restart's care, all children grow into healthy young people with an education and the opportunity to dream and make their dream a reality. Some of our children have started going to university, while others attend vocational courses to prepare them for an independent life with a perspective. |
