Summary: | Upper Blue Mountains Sunrise Rotary Club in conjunction with Wentworth Community Housing, plan on establishing a village equipped with Tiny Homes for the housing of Homeless people and providing support services for the occupants to get them back on their feet whether in 3 weeks, 3 months or 3 years |
Challenge: | There are a large number of Homeless people in the Blue Mountains. There are several sources of support such as food supply from Junction 142 and the Salvation Army and others. There is some support for accommodation but not enough |
Solution: | We are looking at working with other Rotary Clubs on the Mountains and Wentworth Housing to start a project to build Tiny Houses for the support of the Homeless and for those in need of emergency accommodation. RMS have some land which is not needed at the moment and we are in negotiations to lease the land and build the accommodation. We have registered a Rotary Australia World Community Service (RAWCS) project. It is registered as a Compassionate Grant Project which means if we raise $15,000.00 this will be matched by a Dick Smith Grant of $15,000.00 |
Long term impact: | We will have started raising funds for the provision of housing for Homeless People on the Blue Mountains. Once the initial $30,000 is raised we will commence a larger program for the raising of funds. We will work with Governments (Local, State and Federal) the Community to raise additional funds for many more options for the support of the Homeless in the Long Term |
